OVERVIEW

Therapy for adolescents, adults, and couples who are experiencing difficulties in coping.

My approach to clients and their problems is to individualize treatment plans in order to optimally respond to the needs of each client.  I see people who are facing issues related to anxiety, depression, eating problems, relationship stress, grief and other significant life stressors.

I am problem focused, and I draw upon cognitive behavioral, family systems and humanistic therapies. I am particularly interested in adolescent and adult developmental processes that may enhance or impede growth, successful relationships and personal fulfillment.

COLLABORATION

Each person seeking therapy is a unique individual. I believe that the client is a full partner in the therapeutic process, and the best results are achieved in an environment of active collaboration. This means that we will evaluate the therapeutic process, and make adjustments as needed during the process. Your input and feedback are vital to the success of your therapy.

DURATION

Psychotherapy can be brief (10-15 Sessions) or it can be a more open ended process. The length of therapy depends upon your goals, and the issues you present for treatment.  Brief therapy is often appropriate when the client is dealing with specific, short-term stressors or challenges, and the goal is to develop specific solutions. Longer term therapy is useful for developing deeper insights to change a recurring issue or ongoing struggle.

INITIAL STEPS

Our first phone call is important, giving us both a chance to ask questions to ensure that this therapeutic relationship meets your needs. If you decide to make an appointment, you can download and complete the Client Information Form, and bring it with you.

During our first appointment, we will determine how to best describe your goals, and will develop an initial plan to meet those goals.

APPOINTMENTS

Appointments are usually scheduled once a week, and are 50 minutes in duration. During acute crises, I will schedule appointments more than once a week if needed. Clients who are not in crisis, or are near the end of therapy may be scheduled every other week or less frequently, to maintain therapeutic gains.
